As for Phebe and James, there was a separation in that family seemingly, by the mid 1820’s. The family had been living in Orange County in the very eastern portion of New York State. Phebe was still there as late as 10 February 1842 when she married Edward Clendening. Records for the marriage were located at St. James Episcopal Church in Goshen, Orange County, New York. At least three of their children, including Salmon (Solomon), John and Daniel appear to have remained in Orange County for a period of time. Solomon is thought to have died there.

Husband, James, was living in Tompkins County, New York by at least the mid to late 1820’s. He married Sophia Campbell in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York on 17 March 1828. The record for the marriage was published in a local newspaper. Ithaca is about 170 miles northwest of Goshen in Orange County. Others of the children including James B., Isaac and Sarah, were living in Tompkins County in the late 1820’s and early to mid 1830’s. The marriage relationship in the early 1820’s between James and Phebe, is uncertain. Divorces were relatively rare and a divorce record has not been located. Desertion can’t be ruled out.
